Difference between QC2.0 3.0 4.0

QC2.0 3.0 4.0 are high-frequency words that appear in our mobile phone accessories industry, but there are still many customers who don't know their concepts and differences very well. Today, I will systematically share with you what is QC4.0, what is the difference between different QC versions?

【What is QC】

QC, or Quick Charge, is a fast charging technology developed by Qualcomm for terminals equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Up to now, Qualcomm has released four generations of fast charging technology, namely Quick Charge 1.0, Quick Charge 2.0, Quick Charge 3.0 and Quick Charge 4.0.

The following chart lists the voltage, maximum current and maximum power that the three versions of fast charging can support:

list

【QC 2.0】

Support 5/9/12V fixed voltage, up to 24W (12V/2A), maximum support current 2A

【QC 3.0】

Support 3.6-12V fluctuating voltage, up to 36W (12V/3A), the advantages of QC 3.0 compared to 2.0 are:

1) The charging efficiency is increased by 38%, the charging speed is increased by 27%, and the heat generation is reduced by 45%. It takes about 35 minutes to charge an ordinary mobile phone to 80%.

2) QC 2.0 can only switch between 3 fixed voltages, and the switching range is large, which will cause the phone battery to heat up. QC 3.0 is a fluctuating voltage, which has the function of intelligently automatically adjusting the voltage to protect the battery of the mobile phone and avoid heating. When the power reaches 90%, it automatically converts to trickle charging.

【QC 4.0】

1) Support USB Type-C, USB PD, with stronger compatibility;

2) More advanced technology has been added to the power saver to extend the battery life and improve the safety of charging;

3) Maximize the charging efficiency through the INOV algorithm (ie QC3.0: 20mV is the first gear), optimize the charging process and reduce heat generation;

4) Use a second power management chip to provide dual fast charging, combined with intelligent thermal balance design, to optimize charging efficiency.

The QC4.0 technology adjusts the maximum power to 28W, the scheme design is 5V/4.7A~5.6A and 9V/3A, the 12V design is abandoned, and the step voltage is adjusted to 10mV. The current common QC3.0 solution is to output 3.6V~6.5V3A, 6.5V~9V2A, 9V~12V1.5A, and the nominal maximum output power is 18W. In this way, QC4.0 will support two solutions of high voltage and high current, and the charging speed will be further improved, and it will also improve the heat generation and the loss of the battery.

In a word, QC4.0 improves the compatibility, is compatible with PD PPS, is not compatible with QC2.0, QC3.0, and QC4.0+ is all compatible. The QC4.0 fast charging protocol uses the latest power management chips SMB1380 and SMB1381, with lower impedance, peak efficiency increased to 96%, higher charging efficiency, and can be used in batteries with a thickness of less than 0.8mm. Fast charging devices provide perfect support.
